Adolph F. “Al” Krueger, 93, formerly of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, where he had been a resident for the past four years.
Adolph was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Pulcifer, a son of the late Julius and Adelaide (Krueger) Krueger. He attended country schools in Green Valley.
Following school, he drove truck and, on July 18, 1944, was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. Al was always proud that he served in the unit known at the Big Red One, 1st Division. He received a purple heart.
He was united in marriage to the former Erdyne Bristol. Following their marriage the couple moved to Milwaukee and later Langlade County in northern Wisconsin. Al was a businessman, and his first venture was cucumber farming. He later was involved with Al’s Tree Trimming Service, recycling cardboard products and finally Al’s Enterprise, the recycling of Iron.
In his younger years, he loved to play baseball and was a Golden Gloves boxer. He was a member of Shawano VFW. His wife preceded him in death on May 3, 2000.
Al is survived by his four children, Terry (Pat) Krueger, of New York, Cheryl (Dick Jentz) Krueger, Gaylon Krueger and Wayne (Nancy) Krueger, all of Shawano; 17 grandchildren, Terry (Lisa), LeAnn and David Krueger, Val (Carlos) Pinero, Jay (Tammy) Brandt, Kim (Jason) Haufe, Lisa (Tim) Ament, Rhonda Schuh, Tabitha and Michael Krueger, Deanne McKenzi, Stephanie Good, Rachelle and Josh Krueger, Marcus, Christine and Wayne Krueger Jr.; his stepgrandchildren, Jake and Katie Bohm, and Tony Jeske and Heather; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Gordon Bristol, of White Lake, and Jim Sellers, of Antigo.
Al was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Kay; a son, Gaylord; three brothers, Harold, Benjamin and Clarence; two sisters, Minnie and Ann; and one granddaughter, Stacy.
Funeral services for Adolph Krueger will be held on Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Ted Andrada will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at St. James Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials in his name for the Wounded Warriors Project.
