An Abrams woman has been charged with first degree reckless homicide for her involvement in the heroin overdose of her boyfriend last summer, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Tiffany A. Gerrits, 22, was arrested March 4 for allegedly supplying heroin to her boyfriend, Donald J. Hudson, who was 21 when he died of a drug overdose on Aug. 29, 2014. According to a criminal complaint, Gerrits paid $100 for heroin she picked up Aug. 27 at an apartment complex on Western Avenue in Green Bay while Hudson remained in the car.
Gerrits told investigators, “Donny was excited about doing heroin,” the complaint stated. She said they had used heroin on four other occasions.
Gerrits waited to use the heroin until after a doctor’s appointment Aug. 28, according to the complaint, and passed out until the next morning. At 8:20 a.m. Aug. 29, she called 911 after finding Hudson unresponsive in the bedroom of their trailer on Oak Orchard Road.
According to the medical examiner, Hudson died from heroin toxicity.
If convicted of homicide, Gerrits faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a fine of $100,000. She also was charged Thursday in Oconto County Circuit Court with one count of manufacturing/delivering heroin and one count of possession with intent to deliver heroin, which carry maximum penalties of 12 1/2 years each.
She is being held in the Oconto County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond. Her next court date is Thursday, March 12.
