4 to compete in race for Suring trustee

Three village trustees and one challenger are candidates for the Suring Village Board in the April 1 election. Angela Whiting is competing against incumbents Randy Schuettpelz, Cindy Zahn and Rachel Otradovec. Here are the candidates’ profiles. RANDY SCHUETTPELZ Age: 61, Suring resident for 54 years Education: Graduate of Suring High School, associate’s degree in materials management degree from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Green Bay Employment: Purchasing manager at Unlimited Services in Oconto Experience: Secretary of Suring Fire Department, 30-plus years, local church board member/treasurer 6. Statement: “The reduction in state aid and government grants has required the Village Board to scrutinize costs in all municipal departments. I will continue to review expenditures and recommend price reductions where possible. We need to support all potential business opportunities in the village and obtain county and state assistance when needed.” ANGELA WHITING Age: Not disclosed, Suring resident for 15 years Education: Graduated from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Employment: Government employee. Experience: Long history of community and government leadership. Participated in various levels of community and government leadership in past communities. Statement: “The No. 1 issue to be resolved in our community is the issue of employment. We need jobs, not just low-level jobs, but well-paying jobs. With people entering our community for work, people will also stay to shop for food, gas, dining, vehicle repair, etc. I would use my experience and skills to bring new business into the community, as well as helping existing businesses thrive. Employment will lead to sustained growth.” CINDY ZAHN Age: 62, Suring resident for 57 years Education: Suring High School graduate, medical assisting diploma from Northeast Wisconsin Technical School Employment: 30-year employee of Wichman’s BP, currently manager Experience: Village trustee, 16 years; president of American Legion Auxiliary, Suring; Labor Day Committee Statement: “I’d like to see the community come together and work better together. It’s achievable, and I hope we can make it happen. Next year, Suring will celebrate its 100th birthday, and we’re going to have a centennial celebration Labor Day weekend. I’d like to see people come to that. I’d like to see more businesses coming to the village if we can attract them.” RACHEL OTRADOVEC Age: 45, Suring resident for 4 years Education: Earned a GED diploma from Bowler High School, attended the College of Menominee Nation, three semesters Employment: Stay-at-home mother Statement: “I have been on the Village Board for two years, and I love it. I have learned a lot and met some wonderful people. I would like to see more people active with the village, attending meetings and bringing things to the Village Board’s attention for personal matters in which the problem can get resolved quicker, instead of what someone said—hearsay. I would like to see more business brought to the area for jobs to help with the local economy, which would be wonderful.”
