13 area athletes receive M&O honors

Thirteen area athletes received all-conference recognition this week when the Marinette & Oconto Conference basketball selections were announced. Gillett High School senior guard Kara Brennan was selected second-team all-conference. Fellow senior Nicole Rotter was an honorable mention. Also making the girls basketball second team were Lena seniors Melissa Bushmaker and Kayla VanLanen, and Suring seniors Kelsey School and Erin Fisher. Suring senior Calley VanBellinger was an honorable mention. Peshtigo’s Brittany Marquardt was elected as the Most Outstanding Player in the M&O. Gillett (10-13, 9-6 M&O) finished fourth in the conference, followed by Suring (12-10, 9-6 M&O) and Lena (8-15, 5-10 M&O). Coleman (17-4, 15-1 M&O) won the conference. Boys basketball Gillett seniors Dylan Roberts and Jake Kasten were both honorable mention selections. Suring senior Dillon Kempen was named second-team all-conference. Seniors Tyler Fisher and John Horst each received honorable mention. Lena freshman Hunter Borchert was named second-team all-conference. Peshtigo’s Jordan Berth and Zack Neumann were named the league’s Most Valuable Players. Peshtigo (22-2, 16-0 M&O) went undefeated on its way to a M&O championship this season. Suring (11-13, 6-10 M&O) was sixth, followed by Gillett (7-17, 5-11 M&O). Lena (1-22, 0-16) finished last.
