Carey, 53, Marion, was charged Dec. 29 with battery to public officers, two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, and misdemeanor charges of possession of THC and resisting or obstructing an officer. Judge Katherine Sloma set a $2,500 signature bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Jan. 13.

Deputies responded to 29 incidents, including a disturbance on East Front Street in Wittenberg; suspicious activity on County Road K in the Town of Waukechon; suspicious activity near Ash Circle and state Highway 22 in the Town of Wescott; three 911 calls; three reckless driving incidents; one traffic hazard; one welfare check; seven crashes.

Frigid temperatures, near subzero wind chills and the threat of snow were no match for the stamina of 45 people who participated in the Polar Plunge on New Year’s Day at the Lighthouse, which was the 25th time the restaurant near the Shawano Municipal Airport held the event.

The honor guard with the Veterans of Menominee Nation and other select representatives make their way around the arena Dec. 31 during the Menominee Nation Sobriety Powwow held at the Omaeqnomenewak Wetohkatikamek Center in Keshena. Prior to the powwow, a feast was held.

All owners of dogs in Shawano County are reminded that rabies vaccinations and dog licenses are required for the animals.

A rabies vaccination by a veterinarian is required within 30 days after the dog reaches 5 months of age and revaccinated within one year after the initial vaccination. Older vaccinated dogs must be revaccinated when the certificates expires or within three years of the previous vaccination.
