Mini golf course reopens after years of neglect

Shawano Area Waterways Management enjoys a successful year caring for area waters

Summer officially begins at 3:25 a.m. June 21, but volunteers with Shawano Area Waterways Management are already out and about on the waters of Shawano Lake and the Wolf River.

The nonprofit organization is dedicated to protecting and preserving the waters of Shawano Lake, the Wolf River and the channel connecting them on behalf of about 1,200 waterfront property owners.

Speed limit change approved for Green Bay Street

The Shawano Common Council approved an ordinance June 10 to reduce the speed limit on Green Bay Street between Eberlein Park and Airport drives from 40 mph to 35 mph.

Library moving ahead with feasibility study

Details still need to be ironed out, but it looks like the Shawano Public Library will contract with a consulting firm to determine the community’s interest in donating funds to build a new library in Shawano.

“In May, the library board agreed to use the interest from the (Anita) Hartman donation to pay for the study,” said Staci Rubenzer, library director.

Library hopes to digitize newspapers

Contrary to popular belief, not everything can be found on the internet. Much of the past — especially the local past — can only be found in local newspapers on microfilm at the Shawano County Library.

Searching through those reels of microfilm can be challenging, which is why Staci Rubenzer, library director, wants to digitize those files.
