Wynona “Nonie” M. Hansen, 91, of Gillett, passed away of COVID on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021. Nonie was born on Nov. 10, 1930, to the late Elmer and Olga (Miller) Wetzel, the oldest of six children. She graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1948. Nonie married Leroy Hansen on June 18, 1949, at the EUB Church in Gillett. She worked at Parkside Dairy for a number of years. The couple opened Lee’s Service Station in July 1968, which they owned and operated for 20 years. In the 1970s, the Oconto County Commission on Aging Meal Site began in Gillett and Nonie began volunteering immediately to deliver meals. Later, she became a fill-in worker and cook at the Oconto Falls meal site where she remained until two weeks before her passing. Her fresh bread was well loved by all the meal site patrons. Nonie enjoyed traveling, going on trips across the country with Leroy, traveling with daughters and granddaughter to New York, and many other memorable trips. Her last trip was for her 91st birthday and her daughters took her to Yuma, Arizona, to visit with her brother, Lyle. Nonie was a life-long caregiver, helping to raise her brother’s and lovingly raising all her children. Her family will remember her elaborate family functions, making many dishes for every gathering. She was well known for her pickles and desserts.
Nonie is survived by her three children, Connie Hansen, Kathy (Jeff) Bahrke, and Jeff (Renae) Hansen; loving brothers, Lyle Wetzel and Steve (Bonnie) Wetzel; seven beloved grandchildren, Shawn (Danielle) Hensel, Joel Bahrke, Jessica (Brandon) Williams, Jon (Emily) Bahrke, David (Karis) Hansen, Katie (Ben) Baeten, and John Hansen; much loved great-grandchildren, David and Isaac Ohzourk, Lucy, Vance, Connor, and Abigail Williams, Ryker, Harvey, and Hank Bahrke, Todd Hansen, Hadasah, Abishai, Shiloh, and Titus Baeten, and one on the way. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; infant daughter, Carol; brothers, Elmer “Bud” Wetzel Jr., Dale Wetzel, and Ervin Wetzel; nephews, Ervin Wetzel, Jamie Wetzel, and Scott Wetzel.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring from 9 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Kuhn officiating.
