Wayne A. Sleeter, 56, of Suring, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 24, 2022.
Wayne was born to Fred and Cheryl Sleeter on Feb. 10, 1966, in Oconto Falls. He was a supportive father, a devoted grandfather, the best brother, a caring uncle and a dependable friend, always. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving four years stationed at Hurlburt Field Air Force Base in Florida. He graduated from Troy State University in Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1993. He worked as the Technology Services Director of Oconto County for the past 22 years and served on the Suring School Board for 21 years in a number of different roles, serving the last seven years as president.
Wayne was a proud pillar of the Suring community. He also coached for multiple sports including basketball (many 3-on-3 tournaments) and little league (F&M/Citizens Bank) while his daughters attended Suring Public School District. He was an avid sports fan, and he loved the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, Badgers and the Suring Eagles.
Wayne enjoyed spending time with family and reminiscing on the old times while creating new memories. He spent time driving his John Deere tractor with his grandson, Emmet, and playing board games with his granddaughter, Henley. He also attended the Hodag Country Fest in Rhinelander annually with friends and family. He enjoyed relaxing on his front porch while listening to a good song (usually Sammy Kershaw). His biggest fear was birds but he loved watching them enjoy his bird feeders from the safety of his living room.
Wayne is survived by his three daughters, Stevie Sleeter (Matthew Carlson), Jordyn (Dustin) Ermis and Greta Sleeter (Joshuah Reed), his granddaughter, Henley Ermis, his grandson, Emmet Ermis, and his partner, Kelly Sailer. He is also survived by his parents, Fred and Cheryl Sleeter, and his sister Kelly (Mark) Fisher, along with his nephew Tyler Fisher, niece Autumn Fisher, and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
Wayne was preceded by his maternal grandparents, Oscar and Ruth Tachick; paternal grandparents, Harold and Martha Sleeter; uncles, Bob Sleeter, Dale Sleeter and Elger Hoffman; aunts, Rena Hoffman, Betty Kopatz; cousins, Andy Sleeter, Mike Sleeter and Janet Sleeter.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at the Red Maple Golf Course in Suring from 1 p.m. until the memorial service at 4 p.m., with Pastor Steve Anthes officiating. The family requests attendees wear Green Bay Packers apparel, as it was one of Wayne’s faves. Military honors will follow the service. Wayne will be interred at Hickory Cemetery. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.
