A 5K walk will be held Oct. 17 at the College of Menominee Nation campus in Keshena as part of National Disabilities Awareness Month.
The event is designed to provide area residents with information on the contributions and skills of workers with disabilities and resources available for those with disabilities.
The walk, which is open to the public, is being sponsored by the Menominee Vocational Rehabilitation Program and the Menominee Tribal Clinic’s Diabetes, Diabetes Prevention and Wellness Programs.
Walkers will register at 8:30 a.m. near the Cultural Learning Center at CMN, N172 State Highway 47/55, Keshena. The walk begins at 9 a.m. and concludes by noon. Information booths will be open for visitors throughout the morning. Refreshments and prizes will be available.
“We are happy to be part of the National Disabilities Awareness Month effort and to help share information on the talents, strengths and skills that people with disability have,” said Carey Wayka, an MVR counselor and organizer of the walk. “The MVR program’s goal is to help Native Americans who have disabilities and who live within a 30-mile radius of the Menominee Reservation prepare for employment. The Menominee Clinic and other area providers and vendors that have similar goals will be joining us on Oct. 17 to talk with people about their services for those who are disabled.”
