Verna Emmel, 85, of Wittenberg, died on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Benedictine Living Community, Wausau.
Verna was born on Feb. 14, 1939, the daughter of Guy and Orva (St. Thomas) Day.
On Jan. 5, 1957, Verna was united in marriage to Donald Emmel in Wittenberg. He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2008.
Verna worked in housekeeping at Homme Home of Wittenberg and the Lions Camp in Rosholt. She was a member of the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Milwaukee Brewers fan and an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and watched her favorite player Patrick Mahomes win the Super Bowl. Verna enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool and listening to music. She liked to sew and gifted quilts to her children and grandchildren. Verna loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Verna is survived by five children, Carol Emmel (Karl Scheibengraber), Larry (Debbie) Emmel, Linda (Kurt) Evje, Darwin (Denise) Emmel and Peggy Emmel; nine grandchildren, Bradley (Jennifer) Emmel, Brandon (Amber) Emmel, Anna Scheibengraber, Michael Scheibengraber, Kaylin (Adam) Karcz, Kody Evje (Jessica), Lexi (Josh) Konop, Dustin (Kayleigh) Emmel and Nicole (Jason) Voelz; 13 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Briana, Jacob, Caleb, Cambrie, Maddox, Hudson, Haylie, Sawyer, Everett, Kiera, Ireland and Addison; and many nieces and nephews.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; and siblings, Garold Day, Eleanor Kilby, Doris Huckbody, Gayle Day and Alan Day.
A funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. Loretta Waegli will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg. Visitation is on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
