Vera J. Drengler

Vera Jane Drengler, 92, Shawano, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, in Neenah. She was born on Oct. 11, 1922, in Mellen to the late Clyde and Mary Jane (Staples) Simmonds. In 1925, Vera’s family moved to Ironwood, Michigan. Vera attended St. Ambrose Grade and High School, where she graduated as her high school class valedictorian in 1940. She went on to attend and graduate from Northland College, completing her Bachelor of Arts degree as magna cum laude, with majors in English and mathematics in 1944. In fall 1944, she moved to Shawano and taught high school for many years. Vera was united in marriage to William J. Drengler on June 21, 1947, at St. Ambrose Church in Ironwood, until his passing on May 6, 1970. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Shawano Election Board, past president of the Shawano Junior Women’s Club and past president of the Shalagoco Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, knitting, crafts, attending her students’ high school reunions, and teaching her grandchildren. Vera is survived by her children, William (Kathleen) Drengler, of Wausau, and their children, Ryan, Jeffrey and Brittany; JP (Sheila) Drengler, of Clintonville, and their children, Heather (Jeff) Bayer, Jasper, Terra (Andrew) Fletcher, Casey (Anh), Lacy (Harry) Ballard, Sarah and Jaemy; and Joan (Thomas) Brown, of Neenah, and their children, Nicholas and Nathan; her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Keifer, Ahley and Kyle Bayer, Collin, Courtney, Ryan and Chloe Drengler, Zane Fletcher and Koby Drengler. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; two sisters, Nelle Kopacz and Margaret Beaubien; and two brothers, Clyde and Patrick Simmonds. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.
