UTV driver killed in crash with pickup truck

A 48-year-old Little Suamico man died as the result of a two-vehicle accident early April 5 in Oconto County.

At about 3:26 a.m., the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch Center was notified of a truck versus UTV accident with injuries, on Old 41 Road at Vermeiren Road in the Town of Pensaukee.

While on-scene, deputies located the driver of the UTV, a 48-year-old man from Little Suamico, lying on the ground next to the UTV, with apparent injuries. Lifesaving efforts were immediately applied, and the man was transported to Bellin Oconto Hospital where he later died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the truck was uninjured and is identified as a 24-year-old male from Little Suamico.

A preliminary investigation revealed the truck was traveling south on Old 41 Road near Vermeiren Road when it crashed into the UTV which was also traveling south. Alcohol is believed to be a factor related to the crash, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

Following the preliminary investigation, the 24-year-old was arrested, and charges related to the accident will be referred to the Oconto County District Attorney’s Office.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the sheriff’s office, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The sheriff’s office was also assisted by the Wisconsin DNR, Pensaukee Fire Department and Oconto EMS.
