The Suring fifth-grade classes participated in their annual owl pellet project during the first semester. Students in Charlie Breed and Mitchell Szwet’s classes worked on the unit for two weeks.
Students were given an owl pellet wrapped in tin foil, a tray, tools and charts. Students dissected the pellets, cleaned and sorted the bones, then reassembled and labeled the bones using diagrams. Finally, students used their Chromebooks and created a “how to” writing project.
All students seemed to really enjoy the entire process; even those students who thought it was disgusting at first came around and really had fun, according to the teachers.
