Steve Jon Hammer, 49, Green Bay, passed away suddenly due to a heart related condition Tuesday, July 2, 2013. He was born Oct. 6, 1963, to Robert and Catherine (Schweers) Hammer. Steve graduated from Preble High School in 1982 and later from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. On Sept. 17, 1988, he married Chantal Gull at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shawano. Steve worked alongside of his father and brother in the family business, E.C. Manger & Son. His children, Cody and Marissa, were his life. Steve loved spending time with his family and attending his children’s events. He also enjoyed the Packers, playing in fantasy sports leagues, golfing, spending time at the lake in Shawano, the friendships he made in his neighborhood and going for bike rides. Steve was a member of the Lion’s Club and St. Bernard Parish. Survivors include his wife, Chantal; two children at home, Cody and Marissa; his father and mother, Bob and Kay Hammer; his brother, Mike Hammer; a niece and two nephews, Jamie (Eric) Flick, Nick and David Hammer; his mother-in-law, Germaine Buckbee; many friends and business associates. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lester and Virginia Schweers, and Lars and Ida Hammer, and his father-in-law, Ralph Gull. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., Green Bay. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Lane, Green Bay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Mark Vander Steeg officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano.
