Sportsmen donate $500 to Oconto River Kids

The Kelly Lake Sportsman’s Club recently donated $500 to the Oconto River Kids program, the third such donation in as many years. The Oconto River Kids is a group of outdoorsmen and women whose focus is assisting children with life-threatening illnesses attain their outdoor dreams through hands-on hunting and fishing adventures. More than 80 volunteers and Department of Natural Resources personnel donate their time and resources to bait and set up black bear hunts and deer hunts for the participants and their families. In addition, many regional businesses donate facilities and resources to the program. The program is now offering guided fishing trips, along with the fall bear and deer hunts, in order to accommodate the needs and physical capabilities of the kids participating. A volunteer guide, a parent and the participating child go into the field to experience the adventure of a lifetime. In addition to its fishing and hunting focus, the Kelly Lake Sportsman’s Club has a social outreach mission to support regional programs and needs that have a tie to conservation, natural resources and public safety. The club maintains a scholarship program, donates to the Brazeau Dive Team and Kelly Lake Advancement Association, installed and maintains a handicapped dock facility on Kelly Lake, and annually puts on a Helping Hands Day for challenged children and adults, along with a kids fishing derby.
