Shawano Community High School senior Courtney Baumann missed a chance to advance to the WIAA state golf meet on Tuesday.
Baumann shot a 100 at the WIAA Division 1 sectional Tuesday at Thornberry Creek at Oneida, missing the cut by 19 strokes.
“I thought she played some of the best golf, and some of her worst golf,” Shawano coach Dean Kugler said.
Baumann had a rough start, shooting an quadruple bogey on the first hole, a triple bogey on the second and a double bogey on the third. From there Baumann settled down and played better the rest of the way.
“She did fine then,” Kugler said. “She started to play really well.”
The coach said the day was positive for Baumann, who shot a 99 and finished 17th at last week’s Division 1 regional.
“I think Courtney had plenty to be proud of,” Kugler said. “Making it to the sectionals is a positive step. I think she was relatively happy.”
Green Bay Preble’s Maddie Neumeier, who shot a 74, De Pere’s Megan Growt, who shot a 77, and Green Bay West/Green Bay Southwest’s Meghan Lange, who shot an 81, qualified for the state meet.
Also moving on to the state meet were sectional champion Notre Dame and runner-up Kimberly.
