Robert Jeffrey

Robert Jeffrey, 70, of Mountain, passed away at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016. Robert was born in Horton, Kansas, on June 15, 1945, to the late Withro and Mary (Croxton) Jeffrey. He graduated from Willis High School in Kansas with the Class of 1963. He joined the Kansas National Guard in 1963. Robert married Ruth Ann Monhollon on Feb. 14, 1981, at her parents’ house. He worked at a gas station in Horton, Kansas, installed appliances with his brother and worked as a mechanic at the Ford dealership in Horton, Kansas. He was the minister of Hickory Church of Christ and Mountain Church of Christ. Robert started driving school bus for Lamers Bus Lines in 1995 and later became the manager of the northern end of the Suring School District. He retired in August 2013 due to his health. He enjoyed, gardening, landscaping, flowers, hunting, fishing, working in his garage, bird watching, watching sunsets and rainbows. He also enjoyed sitting out on the porch and listening to the rain, thunder and lightning. He was a member of the Kansas City Jaycees and later became their president. Robert is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann, of Mountain; two brothers, Roger Jeffrey, of Everest, Kansas, and Cecil (Beverly) Jeffrey, of Effingham, Kansas; a sister, Patricia (Scott) Andrews, of Topeka, Kansas; a daughter, Kelly (Robert) Sale, of Leona, Kansas; two grandchildren, Caleb Jeffrey and Raven Sale, and great-grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, from 1 p.m. until the memorial service at 2:30 p.m., with Pastor Nate Walter officiating.
