Paul Parker used a caution flag to his advantage to take home the Late Model feature win at Shawano Speedway. Brandon Czarapata remains unbeaten in IMCA Stock Car features at the Speedway, while his cousin Jason Czarapata won the IMCA Modified feature. Cody Hokenstad won his first-ever feature at the Speedway in the IMCA Northern SportMod division. Grant Kastning won the Mighty 4’s feature.
Craig Bartz and Justin Ritchie battled back and forth over the first couple laps for the Late Model feature lead. Bartz took control of the lead and built himself a small advantage before a caution flag waved on lap five. Paul Parker used the opportunity to go from third to first on the restart leaving Bartz, Ritchie, Joel Bennett and Jeff Curtin all in pursuit. Ron Berna joined the top five a couple laps later and tussled with Nick Anvelink for the fifth spot. Another caution slowed the action just past the midpoint of the race.
Parker continued to lead on the restart, with Bennett getting by Bartz for second. Another caution slowed the race a couple laps later. There was no denying Parker as he led the rest of the laps on his way to his first feature win of the season. He was followed by Bennett, Anvelink, Bartz and Ritchie.
John Berna paced the IMCA Modified field for the first four laps of the feature when Jason Czarapata darted to the inside of him and Kevin Feck went to the outside of him entering turn three on lap five. Czarapata came out in front with Feck following. Feck spun one lap later bringing out the caution.
Czarapata continued to lead after the restart and pulled out to a small advantage. Berna and Jerry Wilinski fought for the runner-up spot with Wilinski taking it just before the halfway point of the race. Berna fell into a tussle with Marcus Yarie and Brad Rohloff for the third spot. Berna eventually retired from the race and Yarie was black-flagged for sheet metal on the side of his car that came loose. There was no catching Czarapata as he took the win over Wilinski, Rohloff, Mark Weisnicht and Jerry Muenster.
Luke Uttecht led the first six laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature when things got congested at the front with Harley Simon, Vern Stedjee, Dan Michonski and Brandon Czarapata all racing in a pack. A caution came out a couple of laps later. Uttecht led one more lap after the caution before Czarapata took the lead. Once in the lead Czarapata pulled away to a small advantage.
Uttecht remained in second until three laps remained when Rod Snellenberger took control of the second spot. Michonski followed him one lap later for third. It was Czarapata once again crossing the finish line in first place with Snellenberg, Michonski, Uttecht and Stedjee following.
Cody Hokenstad took the lead of the IMCA Northern SportMod feature on lap three and immediately began pulling away from the field. Austin Carter, Jordan Bartz, Lucas Lamberies and Jake Solin rounded out the top five. Bartz grabbed the second spot on lap seven while Jordan Barkholtz joined the top five. Hokenstad built himself a comfortable lead when the only caution of the race came out with four laps remaining.
Lamberies took a shot at the lead on the restart but Hokenstad was able to fend him off. Lamberies then gave up two spots, to Barkholtz and Cody Hudson, before settling into the fourth spot. The win went to Hokenstad, his first career win at the speedway. He was followed by Barkholtz, Hudson, Lamberies and Jason Jach.
Grant Kastning led all 12 laps of the Mighty 4s feature. He was followed across the line by Calvin Stueck, Trent Nolan, Kasey Gross and Jeff Behm.
Racing resumes at the speedway Saturday, June 29, at 6:30 p.m. Speedway legends Roger Regeth and John Beyers will be inducted into the Shawano Speedway Hall of Fame.
