The Oconto Falls School District started the school year with 13 new staff members, one of the biggest incoming groups in several years.
Joining the staff at Abrams Elementary was Kary Hayes, who will teach fourth grade. She had been working in the La Crosse area before making the jump to Northeast Wisconsin.
Oconto Falls High School alumnus Scott Schroeder will teach second grade at Abrams and assist with high school football.
Hannah Schullo, who comes from a long line of educators, is another OFHS grad. She will teach fifth grade at Oconto Falls Elementary School.
Sarah Hemmy joins the OFES staff and will work with students who have exceptional educational needs. She just completed her degree at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Two new teachers joined the Washington Middle School staff as part of an effort to double the math opportunities for students. Sierra Erdmann, another Oconto Falls graduate, will teach seventh-grade math after teaching in Bonduel. After working in Park Falls, Beth Trochil will teach sixth-grade math.
The grade 6-12 band department will be a family affair as Anna Burish picks up the director’s baton at WMS and joins high school band director and husband, Ben.
After taking off several years to raise a family, Julie Spillane rejoins the staff at WMS to teach French.
Jumping between WMS and the high school, Jeff Trochil will teach physical education and coach football for the Panthers.
Lena graduate Candis Holtz, who previously taught in Gillett, will teach math at OFHS.
Amy Berkovitz, who also taught in Gillett, will teach Spanish.
Rachel Wagner is a school psychologist for students at OFES and OFHS, as she completes her post-graduate work through the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
The Oconto Falls School District also welcomed a new administrator—Joanne Michalski, principal at Abrams Elementary School. Michalski has 16 years of experience in education, including leadership positions in the Green Bay School District.
