The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign is under way in Shawano County.
Many opportunities remain for people to not only contribute, but to volunteer. This is the fourth year that the Women of Today are coordinating the event.
“With the help of the community we have been fortunate enough to increase our totals each year,” said Sue Dionne, a member of the group and kettle coordinator.
The bell ringing got under way on Nov. 21 and will continue every Friday and Saturday until Christmas Eve.
Kettle locations are at Charlie’s County Market, Walmart, Pick N Save, and Qualheim’s True Value.
A couple new kettles will be added in the community with the hope that enough volunteers will be found to man them. There are also 32 counter kettles in Shawano County. The little red kettles can be found by looking for the posters on the door of the participating locations.
Another fundraising opportunity is to purchase a button to wear that shows you have already contributed to the fund. The buttons are available at Island Tropics and Charlie’s County Market.
“So for $20, you can purchase one of these buttons to support Salvation Army,” Dionne said. “I’m still looking to place two button displays, so if you have a counter and would be willing to sell buttons for the campaign, please give me a call.”
For a $5 donation, you can get a teddy bear or a fleece lap blanket with the Salvation Army logo. They are available at Island Tropics, Associated Bank and CoVantage Credit Union.
The Salvation Army supports and helps all of Shawano County.
“All of the money raised in the kettles remains in Shawano County,” Dionne said.
The funds need to last an entire year, and Dionne said the need is growing.
There is a great opportunity for fundraising this year on Dec. 12 and 13 as Thrivent Financial has offered to match the donations from that weekend up to $5,000.
“We are very pleased to have been given this fantastic opportunity,” Dionne said. “That is an offer we must cash in on. We will be adding events to ensure that we will reach our goal.”
One of those opportunities is the sale of paper kettles at Charlie’s County Market for $1 each. Shoppers can purchase them and line the windows to help reach the goal.
“We need ringers to fill our 300-plus shifts, and we need donors to make this a success,” Dionne said. “What a neat way to do a community service project or just spend a few hours with your family ringing bells and making a difference in our community.”
Dionne said it is also a good time for organizations to help the community.
Shifts are available on Dec. 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20 and 24. Shifts are from 9-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 1-3 p.m., 3-5 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. To volunteer or for more information, call Dionne at 715-701-3045 and leave a message.
