Stanley J. Ratner, 98, of Shawano, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at a local nursing home. Born on May 25, 1915, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Dave and Sophie (Lipsky) Ratner. After graduating from high school in Chicago, Stanley furthered his education at Northwestern University. On Nov. 18, 1938, he was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Mahy in Chicago. The couple moved to the Shawano area in 1952, where they established and operated the Washerette. Stanley is survived by his two daughters, Carole Sand, of Appleton, and Kathy (Donald) Derman, of New York City; two granddaughters, Kristen (Jeff) Laforet, of Mesa, Ariz., and their son, Tanner, and Stephanie Brecke, of Wausau, and her children, Aliena and Kole. Stanley was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Dorothy, who passed away on Sept. 2, 2000; his parents; a brother, Marvin Ratner; and a son-in-law, James Sand. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Susan Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
