The Bonduel High School girls golf team finished fourth Tuesday in a Eastern Valley Conference meet at Golden Sands Golf Course in Cecil.
“I’m very happy, they did extremely well,” Bonduel coach Lynn Schaal said.
Fox Valley Lutheran (174) won the meet, followed by Freedom and Appleton Xavier (178), Bonduel (202) and Little Chute (203). Appleton Xavier’s Mikala Smith and Fox Valley Lutheran’s Kayla Priebe each shot a 1-0ver par 37 to share medalist honors.
Bonduel was paced by Taylor Diemel’s 47.
Sophomore Danielle Lautenbach finished with a 48. “She golfed No. 2 today and stepped up and did really well,” Schaal said.
Elizabeth Schaal (53), Samantha Schaal (54) and Sam Inman (56) rounded out the scoring for Bonduel.
With good weather and ideal conditions at Golden Sands on Tuesday, Lynn Schaal said her team played well after a weather-induced slump.
“We had a conference match at Hilly Haven, and they finished sixth. And then they went to Waupaca and took last,” she said. “Both days were hot and they struggled. Then they came back here and they did very well. It’s hard to golf when it’s 98 degrees and 115 heat index.”
Schaal is lobbying the other Eastern Valley golf coaches to bring the regional tourney to Golden Sands in the future.
“I really would like to host regionals here next year,” Schaal said. “It’s a beautiful course. … So, why not? The girls had it here a long time ago.”
