Jean Marie Waupoose, 78, of Neopit, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in Waukegan, Ill.
Born on Aug. 12, 1935, in Keshena, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Theresa (Tucker) Heath.
On Feb. 20, 1954, she was united in marriage to LeRoy J. “Woodchuck” Waupoose in Keshena. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1976.
Jean enjoyed being a housewife and took pride in raising her family. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit where she was active in church and rectory housekeeping, a bingo worker, church time leader and Bible school teacher. She was also a member of the Schoenstadt Society. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Neopit Senior Center, playing bingo, attending the Menominee Nation Powwow, doing crossword puzzles and word searches, cooking, watching Packers games and WWE Wrestling, beading and being around her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by 13 children, Deborah (Marian Keith) Chupco-Jones of Wetumka, Okla., Stanley Waupoose of Shawano, Verna (Wayne) Butor of Eagan, Minn., Peter (Julia) Waupoose of Shawano, Preston (special friend, Karen Carroll) Waupoose of Shawano, Lloyd Waupoose of Neopit, Valerie Waupoose of Keshena, Perry Waupoose of Keshena, Carmen (fiancé Perry Chomyn) Waupoose of Shawano, Angel (Michael Skenedore) Waupoose of Sturgeon Bay, Nanine (special friend, Kenny Askenette) Waupoose of Neopit, Rebecca (fiancé, Al McCann) Waupoose of Gresham, Yvette (Eric) Hasan of Savannah, Ga.; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Jean is further survived by: a sister, Winona Factor of Oklahoma; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Antoinette “Tudy” (Warren) Wilber, Leatha (Greg) Grinhaug, Leila Rabideaux, Rose (Robert) Gengler, Lowell Waupoose, Ivan Waupoose, Sr., Jerome Waupoose; Connie Waupoose, Jeanine Waupoose and Sharon Waupoose.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; a grandchild, Jwin Waupoose; her mother and stepfather, Theresa and Stanley Picard; her father, Peter Heath; and a sister, Dorothy (Andrew) Fredenberg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit with the Rev. David McElroy, O. Praem., officiating. Burial will be in the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Keshena. Visitation will be held at the Neopit Community Center from 3 p.m. on Saturday until the time of the service on Monday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
