Shawano School District business manager Gail Moesch has announced her retirement, effective in February.
District Administrator Gary Cumberland read Moesch’s letter of resignation at the end of Monday’s School Board meeting.
In it, Moesch said that with this year’s budget out of the way, it was the perfect time to retire. She said it would allow a new business manager a chance to start from scratch rather than inherit a budget from a predecessor.
After working for the district for 51 years, Moesch said she was ready to begin a new chapter in her life.
“It has been a privilege to work in my hometown school district for all these years,” Moesch wrote in the letter, which was addressed to the School Board.
“I care deeply about this district and the future that we provide for our students. They deserve the very best education that we can possibly give them. I am proud to be an important part of making that happen,” Moesch wrote. “I challenge this board to offer our students the best education possible and to ensure that we attract and maintain the best staff possible.”
Moesch’s retirement is effective Feb. 14.
In January, Moesch will receive the Business Official of the Year award at a convention in Milwaukee.
Moesch served on the Wisconsin School Business Officials Board of Directors and was the organization’s president in 2006-07. She has also served on numerous community boards, including the Shawano Hospital Board, the Rural Health Initiative Board, and the Shawano Optimist Club Board.
