Norman J. Waupoose Sr.

Norman Joseph Waupoose, Sr., 73, of Neopit, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Born on June 17, 1940, in Keshena, he was the son of the late Albert and Muriel (Fish) Waupoose Sr. On April 11, 1966, he was united in marriage to Mary M. “Cook” Brooks in Gresham. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2008. Norman worked as a sawyer for Menominee Tribal Enterprise for more than 45 years and was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church. When not at work, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, logging, watching the Brewers and Packers play ball, and he loved Smokey Town. He also loved watching his grandkids dance at pow-wows. Norman is survived by his six children, Mario (Laura) Waupoose, Duane (Mary) Waupoose, Bryant (Tina) Waupoose, Val (Mark Sr.) Self, Muriel Waupoose, Rose (Shannon) Waupoose-Tucker; 27 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his son, Norman Jr.; his daughter, Susan Marie; his parents; and three brothers, Howie, Albert and George. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held at the residence located at 2095 Hickory Road, Neopit, from noon on Thursday until the procession leaves for the church on Saturday. A parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
