A 33-year-old Shawano man was arrested Monday after authorities busted an alleged pot operation in the town of Belle Plaine
Shawano County sheriff’s officials, along with the State of Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, executed a search warrant at a residence after an extensive investigation established probable cause that the residence was associated with the manufacture and distribution of controlled substances, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Sheriff’s detectives and deputies found an advanced drug manufacturing operation and seized substantial amounts of marijuana in various stages of growth. The components comprising the operation were also seized as evidence and for additional analysis, the Sheriff’s Department said.
A total 345 marijuana plants were seized, according to the Sheriff’s department.
The suspect taken into custody at the scene is facing possible charges of possession and manufacturing of marijuana, keeping a drug house, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to deliver controlled substances. Additional charges may be forwarded to the Shawano County District Attorney after a detailed analysis of the substances recovered is completed, the department said.
Capt. Tom Tuma said the Sheriff’s Department will continue to take proactive measures to deal with the serious problem of drugs in the county.
“The manufacturing and distribution of controlled substances is not without negative consequences,” Tuma said. “Treating these cases, including possession, as anything less than criminal does little to acknowledge the ancillary anti-social behavior often associated with drug use, fails to identify the correlation between gateway drugs and more severe forms of addiction, and runs contrary to the quality of life we expect in Shawano County. The Sheriff’s Office intends on continuing to be proactive in these matters, both from enforcement and educational perspectives.”
