Arnold George Krause Sr., 87, of Shawano, entered eternal life on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton after a short battle with leukemia. Born on Aug. 18, 1926, in the town of Wescott, he was the son of the late William and Irma (Baldock) Krause.
Before graduating from Shawano High School, Arnold enlisted with the United States Army and served his country for two years during World War II. On Sept. 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Anne Belle Moede in Shawano. The couple made their home and raised their family in the Shawano area, where Arnold worked as a millwright at Badger Milk Plant. After the milk plant went on strike, he went to work at the Shawano Paper Mill, retiring in 1987 after 35 years. Arnold was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Stony Hill, where he was an elder and enjoyed singing in church and hearing the word of God. He was also a member of the Shawano VFW. Arnold loved all sports, including hunting, fishing and stock car racing, especially Jimmy Johnson. He was also an avid Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan and enjoyed watching the games. Most of all, Arnold loved his family with all his heart, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anne Belle; his daughter, Candice Lee Dettlaff, of Oshkosh; six grandsons, Timothy (Wendy) Krause, Jason Krause, Erick Dettlaff, Jesse Dettlaff, Andrew (fiancee, Julie) Krause, Zachery Krause; three great-grandchildren, Joshua (fiancee, Nicki) Krause, Shanna Krause, Allie Krause; a sister-in-law, Audrey Krause; and many nieces and nephews.
Arnold was preceded in death by his son, Arnold Gordon Krause Jr; his parents; four brothers, Kenneth, Clifford, Edwin, Victor; three sisters, Esther Zdiartek, Dorothy Uelman, Rachel Karcz; and a half-brother, Clarence Meisner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church-Stony Hill in the town of Richmond with the Rev. John C. Eyer officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano with military rites conducted by Shawano VFW Post 2723. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
