Dennis “Skip” Skalitzky, 73, Pulaski, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at his home with his family and friends at his side. The son of Alice (Blish) and the late Ben Skalitzky was born March 15, 1942, in Shawano.
On March 3, 1962, Skip was united in marriage to Karen Schutt in Shawano. The couple made their home in Shawano and eventually moved to Pulaski, where they have resided for over 40 years. Dennis worked for several years at Carver Yachts, and then was employed as a trucker for Schneider trucking until retiring in 2009.
Dennis was an active firefighter with the Pulaski Tri-County Fire Department for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time at the fire station, repairing equipment and being actively involved with the department. “Hi old man, how’re you doing today!” Some of the hobbies Skip enjoyed were hunting, fishing and building hunting stands.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; two children, Denise (Ron) Smurawa, Krakow, and Dennis “Buck” (Amy) Skalitzky, Oconto Falls; two grandchildren, Jacklyn (Dustin) Adams and Michael Smurawa, all of Green Bay. He is further survived by his mother, Alice Koeller, Shawano, and two brothers, Eugene (Eileen) Skalitzky and Richard (Debbie) Skalitzky, all of Shawano.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Skalitzky, and his sister, Barbara Skalitzky.
Friends may call at St. John Lutheran Church, 910 S. St. Augustine St., Pulaski, from 4-7 p.m. Friday. Visitation continues after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. The funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Larry Yaw officiating. Burial will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery, Laney, followed by the “Firefighter’s Last Call.”
