Shawano Community High School senior Daniel Boivin won the WIAA Division 1 sectional championship in the pole vault Friday in Ashwaubenon.
Boivin cleared the bar at 14 feet to punch his ticket to the state championships next week in La Crosse. He also placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (40.51 seconds) and accounted for 10 of the Hawks’ 23 team points, which landed them in 12th.
Jake Klister also punched his ticket, taking third place in the 800 run, registering a time of 1:57.24, less than two seconds behind sectional champion Daniel LaLuzerne of Green Bay Preble.
For the Shawano girls, who finished 16th, junior Kristina Kurtz was seventh in both the 400 and 200, and freshman Onalee Siegfried was seventh in the pole vault.
Bay Port won the boys sectional title; De Pere was first in the girls meet.
