Elsie L. Askenette, 58, of Keshena, started her journey to the Spirit World on Saturday afternoon, June 27, 2015, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, where she had been a patient for eight days.
Elsie was born on May 7, 1957, in Shawano, a daughter of the late Ralph and Evelyn (Gauthier) Haack. She attended school in Neopit and later in Shawano. On Aug. 13, 2005, she was united in marriage to Marvin “Tony” Askenette. She was formerly employed as the housekeeper supervisor at the Menominee casino. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit.
Elsie loved to spend time with her family, cook, sew, go rummaging, and she adored her grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor. She was one of the pillars of the Regalia Circle.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin, of Keshena; four children, MaShann (Cheryl) Haack, of Keshena, Tonia (Bradley) Haack, of Keshena, Raissa (Sam) Askenette, of Green Bay, and Roscoe (Maria) Askenette, of Odessa, Texas; nine grandchildren, Antonio, Blake, Lorenzo, Omaha, Levi, Bryce, Aaliyah, Julian and Alec; her brothers and sisters, James (Linda) Haack, Eva Wilber, Karen (Jack) Maxey, Anita (Bud) Kaquatosh, Fred Haack, Jean Haack, Allen Haack, Donna Haack, Ralph (Mary) Haack, Sue Haack and John Haack; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special godchild, Stevie Marie Askenette Waukau.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ardin Haack, and her sister, Linda Shawanomitta.
Funeral Mass for Elsie Askenette will be celebrated on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. The Rev. David McElroy, O. Praem, will be the celebrant. Relatives and friends may call at the Tonia Haack residence, N1218 Spirit Island Trail, Keshena, after 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, until the procession leaves for church on Thursday morning. A parish wake service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at 7 p.m. at the Haack residence.
