Saturday was the track’s 11th annual Bud Lynn memorial race. The family of the longtime racer was on hand again this year to hand out trophies to the feature winners.
One of the trophies went to Travis VanStraten, who won his 11th straight IMCA Stock Car feature and 12th of the season.
Tracy Wassenberg secured his fourth IMCA Sport Mod win. Jerry Wilinski picked up his third IMCA Modified victory. Ron Berna won his second Late Model feature this year; it was his first win since opening night. Aaron Milavitz raced to his first feature win of the year in the Mighty Four class.
Late Models
The Late Models feature saw Jeff Curtin, driving a number 81 machine out of the Troy Springborn stable, take the lead on lap one. Brett Swedberg got inside of Curtin coming into turn three and took the lead away. Swedberg’s lead would only last one lap though as mechanical issues forced him to pit lane. Swedberg’s misfortune allowed Curtin to regain the lead.
Doug Blashe quickly asserted himself in the battle for the lead. Curtin and Blashe raced side by side for laps eight and nine before a caution flag slowed the pace. On lap 1o, Blashe held the lead over Curtin by a bumper at the start-finish line. Curtin took the lead right back entering turn one.
Berna passed Blashe on lap 13 to move into second. Curtin’s car got loose exiting turn number two and Berna capitalized by taking the lead. Berna held off pesky Blashe for the remaining12 laps on his way to victory lane.
Taylor Scheffler passed Curtin late in the race to take third. Curtin held on for fourth. Mark Rose finished fifth.
IMCA Modifieds
Kevin Feck grabbed the lead at the start of the IMCA Modified feature. Matt Oreskovich, Jerry Muenster and Jerry Wilinski pursued Feck for the lead. Wilinski went to the outside of Feck on lap 11 to take the lead away. Oreskovich and Jason Czarapata followed Wilinski past Feck. Czarapata stalked Wilinski over the closing laps. The pair went through turns three and four side by side with Wilinski prevailing at the line. Oreskovich finished third, Lance Arneson took fourth, and Mitch Stankowski was fifth.
IMCA Stock Cars
Trent Nolan led lap one of the IMCA Stock car feature before giving way to Gary Kasperek on lap two. Kasperek held the lead until lap four when VanStraten raced to the point. Dan Michonski moved into second on lap seven. Michonski tried numerous times to make a pass of VanStraten, but VanStraten went on to win again. Shawn Wagner finished third, Kasperek fourth and Dustin Loberger fifth.
IMCA Sport Mods
Jordan Barkholtz moved up from his second row starting position to take the lead on lap one of the IMCA sport mod feature. Wassenberg passed Kyle Raddant to move to second on lap three. Wassenberg pursued Barkholtz until lap 11 when Wassenberg went to the outside in turn two to take the lead. Wassenberg would lead the rest of the race. Barkholtz, Jason Jach, Brock Saunders and Raddant rounded out the top five.
Mighty Fours
Milavitz led all 12 laps of the Mighty Four feature. Grant Kastning finished second, Brad Wedde third, Dalton Nelson fourth and Lucas Hacker fifth.
Spectator Eliminators
Brian Welch and Dave Stoffer picked up wins in Spectator Eliminator action.
