Kay Francine (Viitanen) Capion, 65, of Shawano, died on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, in Appleton.
Kay was born on Nov. 19, 1949, to the late Roy and Violet (Wendt) Viitanen in Chicago. When she was 5, her family moved to Wisconsin, where she was raised in Clintonville. She graduated in 1968 from Clintonville High School. On Sept. 20, 1969, she was united in marriage to Clayton Balke at St. Martin Lutheran Church. She was then united in marriage to Don Capion on June 16, 1989, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She trained as an emergency medical technician and volunteered with two ambulance companies for eight years. She also trained as a medical technician and worked for 15 years at Shawano Medical Center. Kay was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts, bloodmobile and cystic fibrosis.
Kay is survived by her husband of 26 years, Don; her daughters, Dr. Kristina Rodriguez, of Aliso Viejo, California, and Marisa Naeyaent, of Shawano; one grandchild, Audrey Naeyaent; as well as her sister, Denise Viitanen, of Clintonville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Arnold Viitanen.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano from 5-8 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
