Erva E. Mielke, 87, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at home, surrounded by her family.
Erva Elaine Mielke was born June 30, 1928, to the late Carl and Laura (Dybdall) Zietlow in Iola. She was baptized on July 29, 1928, and confirmed on Sept. 22, 1940. She was a 1945 graduate of Marion High School. Following graduation, Erva was employed for a short time at the FWD, Clintonville, and was later employed by Marion State Bank/Premier Community Bank, Marion. She worked as a customer service representative until her retirement after 52 years.
Erva was united in marriage to George “Jack” Mielke on June 30, 1949, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Big Falls, and the couple raised 10 children together. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion, where Erva served as secretary/treasurer for the Sunday school for 22 years, church treasurer for 24 years, and past treasurer for both the WELCA and the Legion Auxiliary. Erva was also a past member of the Women’s Club. She had many hobbies, including knitting, card playing and reading books, and was also a dedicated Milwaukee Brewers fan. Her greatest joy was the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.
Erva is survived by her children, Patricia Mielke, Ray (Linda) Mielke, Betty (David) Bertram, Mary (Jan) Homan, Linda (Paul) Broman, Jon Mielke, Jill (Dick) Daleiden, Peter (Char) Mielke, James Mielke, Paul (Jena) Mielke; grandchildren, Nicole (Eric) Maas, Neall Bertram, Josh (Morgan) Mielke, Samantha (fiancé Cameron) Mielke, Matthew (Stephanie) Mielke, Adam Mielke; Sam (fiancée Erica) Homan, Kayla and Sonya Homan, David (fiancée Hannah) Broman, Andrew Broman, and LaDainian, Xzavier and Aviana Mielke; great-grandchildren, Evania, McClane, Jameson, Braylon, McKayla and Emma Sue; sister-in-law, Melane Zietlow; and her loyal companion, Muffin.
Erva was preceded in death by her husband, George “Jack”; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Mielke; a granddaughter, Lyssa Bertram; an infant sister, Laura; a brother, Gordon Zietlow; and numerous other brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion, with the Rev. Bradley Dokken officiating. Interment will take place at Greenleaf Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Roof Fund.
