James L. Dickson

James L. “Lurch” Dickson, 53, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at 7:22 p.m. at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, following a six-month journey of recovery from kidney surgery. His loving wife was at his side. Lurch was born on Aug. 3, 1962, in Chicago, son of Judith (Hoffman) Anker and the late Abraham Lincoln Dickson. Lurch attended school in Shawano. Following school he worked as a carpenter, bartender and as a pole digger for the Asplundh Company. On Aug. 23, 2002, he was united in marriage to the former Dawn-Rae Hurta at The Rock by Judge David Winter. The couple has lived in Shawano since their marriage. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying deer hunting and trout fishing. He played beach volleyball in several summer leagues. He was the “Jeopardy King” and was known for his math skills. He was a true Chicago sports fan. Lurch was an avid reader and believed in the Rites of Odin. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Dawn-Rae “Mrs. Lurch” Dickson; three loving daughters, Alyssa Rose Michalski, Freya Faith Dickson and Ostara Rae Dickson, all at home; his mother and stepfather, Judy (Howard) Anker, of Shawano; his sister, Christa Dickson, of Shawano; his mother-in-law, Judie Hurta, of Marion; his father-in-law, Ronald (Donna) Hurta Sr., of Friendship; his brother-in-law, Ronald Hurta Jr., of Marion; his stepbrother, Matt (Micki) Anker, of Marion; his stepsister, Vicki (Joe) Wurth, of Shawano; two special aunts, Sharon Gillette and Virginia Abraham, both of Shawano; his only remaining Dickson aunt, Janice Ford, of Milwaukee; and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation for Lurch will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at Mickelson Funeral Service from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred for the family.
