Cow College classes set in Clintonville

Registration closes Wednesday for the Cow College sessions to be held in January at the Fox Valley Technical College Regional Center in Clintonville. Sessions will be held from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 5 and Jan. 12 at the FVTC center, 525 S. Main St., Clintonville, and conclude with a farm tour Jan. 19 in south central Waupaca County. Dave Combs, University of Wisconsin-Madison dairy nutrition specialist, will discuss “Feeding Dairy Cows for Profit” at the Jan. 5 session. The session also will include a discussion of local dairy nutrition. Mayra Pasayes, with Fox Valley Technical College’s Office of Diversity, will also discuss improving multi-cultural awareness of Hispanic and Latino employees. On Jan. 12, Gordie Jones, veterinarian, dairy consultant and managing partner of Central Sands Dairy, will cover present “Achieving Excellence.” Outagamie County Extension agent Zen Miller will also share results of a recent evaluation of dehorning practices on dairy farms in northeast Wisconsin. Cow College concludes Jan. 19 with tours of Breezy Hill Farms, E4399 Bartel Road, Weyauwega, at 10 a.m and Jonely Farms, N1921 County Road Z, Weyauwega, at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. at the Waupaca VFW Hall, 244 Industrial Drive, Waupaca. The cost for Cow College is $5 per day or $10 to attend all three days.
