Morgan Kenneth Huglen, 96, of Iola, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.
Morgan was born in Northland on Oct. 27, 1919. He was the son of the late Selmer Huglen and Helma (Nymoen) Huglen Holmes. He was married to Eleanor (Wrolstad) Huglen on Jan. 17, 1942, in San Diego, California. They remained partners in life until Eleanor’s death in 2014.
Morgan joined the Civilian Conservation Corps shortly after graduating from high school. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Pacific. One of the most memorable experiences in his later years was to travel to Washington, D.C., as a member of the Honor Flight.
As an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, Morgan passed on to his children and grandchildren a deep appreciation for nature. His love for music began when he learned to play the violin at the Conservatory of Music in Appleton. Playing the guitar, mandolin, banjo or ukulele, Morgan provided entertainment around many a campfire or family gathering, while his family would sing along.
Morgan and Eleanor raised their five children in Rhinelander, where he worked at Cleary’s Dairy for many years. In later years, he transferred to Morning Glory Dairy in Shawano as director of purchasing. Upon retirement, Morgan and Eleanor moved to Iola, where they enjoyed living near many extended cousins, friends and relatives. Morgan was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola.
Morgan was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor, and his grandson, Michael Dellegrazio.
He is survived by his five children, Diane Marquardt, of Iola, Michael (Donna) Huglen, of Tucson, Arizona, Mark (Gayle) Huglen, of Iola, Steven (Rita) Huglen, of Norway, Michigan, and Cindy (Philip) Dellegrazio, of Grafton; and his sister, Carol Alderton. He had 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Morgan will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Iola Living Assistance, Ministry Hospice and St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point for the excellent care provided to Morgan.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Morgan to the Iola Living Assistance.
