The Navarino Nature Center will hold a winter training session for volunteers at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Volunteer opportunities at the center include the following:
- Project Feeder Watch. Twice a month, from November through March, volunteers gather for two hours to count birds at the nature center feeders. This is a great way to learn more about the nature center and birds and make some new friends.
- Help out at nature center programs and events. Some of the nature center’s larger events and programs require help with setup, serving food, helping children to do crafts and more. The center’s events include Frozen Fun, Navarino Trail Run/Walk, Earth Day open house, day and summer camps, Fall Family Fun Day, Fall Color 5K Run/Walk, Halloween and Artfest.
- Volunteer Naturalist Assistants. These people share their time and love of the outdoors with students who visit the nature center annually. Volunteer naturalists meet several times a year for training on curricula, program updates, hands-on teaching and working with school groups. Whether you would like to teach or just be an extra set of hands, help is always appreciated.
