Leah Lynn Besaw, age 50, of Neopit, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016. She was born in Shawano on April 30, 1965, the daughter of Eldora Theresa (Beauprey) Besaw and the late Glenn Joseph Besaw.
Leah loved the outdoors, spending time in the woods camping, hunting, cutting fire wood, picking berries, fishing or just being at home on the Rez. Leah had a generous heart, always there to help out, doing so wholeheartedly. Although she had no biological children, Leah considered her nieces and nephews her own. She loved spending time with them playing “Crack the Nut.” When she would arrive, they were drawn to her; she was fun-loving and gave them her full attention. She attended and graduated from Clown College, worked as a truck driver, worked at the casino and most recently went into home care. She was an avid Packers fan and loved spending time with her dogs, Sadie and Fred.
Leah was a beloved daughter, sister, auntie, niece, cousin, friend and protector, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Leah is survived by her mother, Eldora; her brothers and sisters, Joseph (Lisa) Besaw, of Keshena, Gary Besaw, of Keshena, Kelly Besaw, of Neopit, Carolyn Besaw, of Keshena, and Linea Arthur, of Keshena. She is further survived by her godmother, Cordelia Beauprey; lifelong best friend, Linda White; special cousin, Diane “Tootie” Shooter; nieces and nephews, Kateri, Deidre, Aaron, Luke, Kara, Melissa, Lori, Josh, Joseph, Kelsey, David, Marie, Corryn, Gabe, Glen and Delson; as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her fiancé, John Hawpetoss; her father, Glenn; her sister, Darnell Askenette; and her nephew, Glenn Fowler.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit with the Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was at the community center in Neopit from 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, until the time of the service on Monday.
