Sylvia M. Christensen, 89, MeadowLands of Oconto Falls, formerly Lena, went to the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013. She was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Cooks County, Mich., to the late Martin and Rose (Boehm) Smits.
On Dec. 9, 1944, Sylvia married Quentin “Squint” Christensen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spruce. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1988.
Survivors include four children, Leroy (Jerilyn) Christensen, Maribel; Edward (Linda) Christensen, Pound; Wesley Christensen and special friend Paula Reed, Wausau; June (Ronnie) Kruse, Lena; 17 grandchildren, Michelle, Sheila, Connie, Keith, Jesse, Daniel, Katie, Kelly, Ashley, Becky, Travis, Heidi, Tyler, Nicole, Michael, Jackie, Bryan; and 19 great-grandchildren with another expected soon.
She is further survived by two brothers, Martin Smits, Gillett; George (Doris) Smits, Green Bay; one sister, AnnaMae Blazer, Maribel; one sister-in-law, Gertie Christensen, Green Bay; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kelly Christensen; two infant siblings, Agnes and John Smits; one brother, Norbert (Harriet) Smits; two sisters, Stella (Ervin “Charlie”) Heaney, Isabel (Ellis) McMahon; one sister-in-law, Alice Smits; one brother-in-law, Robert Blazer.
Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Lena. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the church, with Father Celestine Byekwaso officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Cemetery, Hickory.
