Street repairs are planned for the city of Oconto Falls, even as improvements are being made on state Highway 22 in the city.
On June 9, the Oconto Falls City Council approved quotes from Joe Barley, of Menominee, Michigan, and Oconto County for improvements to Munsert Avenue, Monroe Street, Cherry Avenue, Ridge Road, Indianwood Drive and the City Hall parking lot.
The project will cost about $310,000, paid for in bonds already issued to the city, with the exception of about $100,000 taken from the city’s general fund. Property owners will pay a 20 percent share of the project cost, apportioned on a lineal foot basis.
Work is scheduled to begin in July or August; residents in the construction zone will be notified in advance.
Barley was selected to pulverize and repave the City Hall parking lot at a cost of $78,899, and replace curb and gutter on Indianwood Drive and Ridge Road for $72,928.
Oconto County will do pulverizing and paving at Cherry Avenue, $11,384; Monroe Street, $21,833; Ridge Road, $50,371; Indianwood Drive, $12,127; and Munsert Avenue, $103,580.
The City Council had discussed street quotes on May 14, May 28 and June 1, but tabled any decision while it worked through issues such as soliciting more quotes for the project and confirming the legality of requesting quotes instead of bids.
