Cynthia Howe, 93, of Suring, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Woodland Village Nursing Home in Suring.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Winfield. Burial will be at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield at a later date.

Cynthia Charlotte (Cain) Howe was born on May 14, 1922, in Western Grove, Arkansas, the daughter of Milo Franklin Cain and Minnie May (Fultz). She graduated from Wellington High School. On Nov. 6, 1944, Cynthia was united in marriage to Jack Lee Howe in Belle Plaine, Kansas. While Jack served his country overseas with the Army Air Corps, Cynthia supported the war effort by working at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita as a riveter on the assembly line and was known as a “Rosie the Riveter.” She also worked the night shift as a nurse’s aide at William Newton Hospital in Winfield for over 30 years until retirement. Despite her work schedule, she never missed events involving her children’s sports, music lessons, concerts, Scouts and church. Cynthia enjoyed her flowers and prolific garden, canning her own produce.
Cynthia is survived by her children: Eddie Howe, of Willmar, Minnesota, Donna Isbell, of Underhill, and David Howe, of Auburn, Washington; five grandchildren: Eddie Howe Jr., Heidi Braun, Luann Hawker, Christopher Isbell and Sarah Howe; 13 great-grandchildren: Zoe’ Howe, Lacy Braun, Haley Braun, Alexander Hawker, Gabrielle Hawker, Gwyneth Hawker, Andrea Hawker, Lexie Isbell, Annabell Isbell, Lillian Isbell, Josephine Isbell, Eli Isbell and Jack Isbell; and one brother, Charles Cain, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
Preceding her in death are her parents and husband.
