Plenty to do in the northwoods

Several events will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, in northern Oconto County, and “Discover Wisconsin” TV crews will be in the area filming segments. Oconto County will be featured on an upcoming “Discover Wisconsin” episode. The Aug. 1 events include the Townsend Flowage Association Corn Roast and Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Townsend Town Hall; the Legion Auxiliary brat fry from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SuperValu in Lakewood; and the McCaslin Lions Art and Craft Fair, featuring 195 vendors occupying 263 booths, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lakewood Town Hall and Activity Center. The Holt & Balcom Logging Camp Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and camp curator Kathleen Marsh will tell the story of the camp’s restoration in a half-hour slide show presentation at 1 and 2 p.m. Holt & Balcom is located on County Road F, a mile and a half east of Lakewood. Parking is available in the McCauslin Brook Golf Course and Country Club lot. The museum is on McCauslin Brook, just behind the clubhouse.
