World’s smallest Gospel singer to perform in Suring

Guinness world record-holder Lowell Mason will appear at Hickory Church of Christ in Suring on Sunday, Aug. 30. Mason has been called the world’s smallest Gospel singer because of his height of 46 inches. His booming voice, however, has no comparison to his size. During his program, Mason will sing a variety of “old-time” songs. The mood can change from a deep moving hymn such as “Peace in the Valley” or “The Old Rugged Cross” to a rousing, hand-clapping Gospel favorite such as “Daddy Sang Bass” or “Put Your Hand in the Hand of the Man from Galilee.” Mason began his singing career at the age of 9 when he joined the “Children’s Bible Hour” radio broadcast out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. For seven years, he was a regular feature on that weekly program, which was, and still is, heard from coast to coast. During his teenage years, Mason sang for Youth for Christ in the United States and Victorious Christian Youth in Canada. After completion of high school in 1955, Mason joined the Cecil Todd Evangelist Team of Joplin, Missouri. This association produced a weekly television program called “Revival Fires,” which was seen on more than 150 televisions each week. Mason was vice president and featured soloist on that program during the ’60s and the ’70s. As a full-time evangelist, “Little Lowell” travels nearly 100,000 miles each year taking the Gospel in song and sermons across America and around the world. Since 1992, he has made several crusade tours to Russia. In joint cooperation with Revival Fires, Mason has helped distribute over 4 million Bibles to the children and military people of Russia, conducts revival meetings, helps establish new churches and organizes Gospel team tours to Russia. In 1996, Lowell received his honorable Doctor of Divinity degree for outstanding achievements in world evangelism. He is honored in the “Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement” and in the 2013 “Guinness World Book of Records” Mason has conducted over 1,500 Gospel music concerts at the Precious Moments Chapel Complex in Carthage, Missouri. He will perform at 9:45 a.m. at Hickory Church of Christ, 8892 County Road G, Suring. A free-will offering will be accepted.
