The 43rd annual reunion of the Lars and Angeline Johnson family was held July 25 in Prairie du Chien, on the shores of the Mississippi River.
The families of Wilma Valenta, Lars Johnson and Ronald Johnson were on the reunion committee this year, with Ronald Johnson’s family hosting. Sixty family members came by plane and car. Lisa Landenberger and her two children came from the farthest away — Luxembourg, Europe.
Along with the conversation, the highlight of the reunion, at least for the children, was the auction. Family members brought items that cost $10 to $15 and wrapped them in brown paper bags. Butch Houska, the auctioneer, kept the event going. A few bidding wars ensued.
Guests had areas to bicycle, canoe, fish and kayak along the Mississippi River. It was a sunny day with a breeze off the river to keep everyone cool.
Since last year, there were three births, three deaths, three graduations and one marriage.
The 2016 Johnson family reunion committee includes the families of Clyde Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Neva Hodge-Lemorande. Kenneth Johnson’s family will host the event, to be held on the last Saturday of July at the last home of Lars and Angeline Johnson at Hickory Corners.
