The three emergency organizations of the town of Brazeau partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in 2012 to have a kiosk full of life jackets stationed at boat landings on lakes in the Brazeau service area. The program name is “Kids Don’t Float Life Jacket Loaner Program.”
The life jackets are there for anyone to use in the event they didn’t have enough life jackets on their boat or for anyone to use for swimming. People can use them as long as they want but are to return them to the kiosk at the end of the day.
In 2012 there was one kiosk at the White Potato Lake boat landing 3. In 2013 two more kiosks were added, at Kelly Lake boat landing 5 and the Rost Lake boat landing.
The first year went well, and the life jackets were being used and returned. But over the years the life jackets were not being returned. Brazeau Emergency Services asks that if you forgot to return a life jacket to the kiosk, please return it as soon as possible. Not returning life jackets could cause the program to be discontinued.
Please pass this request to all residents and visitors who use these lakes and might have one of the life jackets. All life jackets are either red or blue and say “DNR loaner life jacket” on the back.
