The Oconto County Public Health Department will hold walk-in flu vaccination clinics from 9-10 a.m. Oct. 12 and 26 in the first-floor jury room of the Oconto County Courthouse, Building C.
Individuals unable to attend a walk-in clinic may call the health department at 920-834-7000 to make an appointment for a flu vaccine at one of the regularly scheduled immunization clinics in Mountain, Oconto or Oconto Falls.
OCPH will provide free flu vaccines (mist and shot) to students in early childhood to 12th grade at their schools. All school students are eligible for the free flu vaccine, regardless of insurance or income. The free flu vaccine is available only at the schools, as part of a public health preparedness activity. Parents who did not receive a consent form may download a form at the influenza tab at www.ocph.info.
Flu shots cost $25 for adults with no insurance or private insurance. Medicare and Medicaid cover the flu shot; people should bring their Medicare or Medicaid cards to the clinics.
For children not receiving the flu shot or mist at school, the shot or mist is free for those who have no insurance, insurance that does not cover flu vaccine, or insurance that has a monetary cap on vaccinations that has already been met. Vaccination is also free for children who have medical assistance/Badger Care or are Native Americans or Alaskan natives.
For other children ages 3-18, the cost is $25.
The flu shot is recommended for everyone 6 months and older, although OCPH does not have vaccine for children 6 months to 2 years old.
The flu comes on suddenly, and its symptoms are headache, fever, extreme fatigue and weakness, and severe body aches.
