Ninety-five ATVs and UTVs took part in the ninth annual Red Arrow ATV/UTV parade on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Bystanders counted well over 150 people taking part as many UTVs had three or four people on board.
The parade lined up at Townsend Shell and headed to Barb’s Valley Inn to kick off the ninth annual corn roast sponsored by Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club and Barb’s Valley Inn.
The parade was led by grand marshal Jim Weyer, a former Red Arrow Club treasurer and longtime club member. Weyer was one of a handful of people who worked with the former Townsend Chairperson Sue Rapp in 2005 to make town roads legal for riding. This action opened the door to many trail and route connections through the northern part of Oconto County.
Despite the high heat and humidity a huge crowd gathered as the parade arrived. They spent the summer afternoon enjoying meat raffles, DJ music, free sweet corn and other food.
The top raffle prize winners were Dave Hinkens, first, GoPro HERO4 Black Edition HD Camcorder and accessories provided by Red Arrow; Mike Wall, second, Stihl BG86 blower donated by Barb’s Valley Inn; Frank Miller, third, Stihl FS45 trimmer donated by Barb’s Valley Inn; and Laura Lawson, fourth, air compressor/nailer package provided by Red Arrow.
