Big quarter sinks Panthers

One week after snapping a losing streak that spanned three seasons, the Oconto Falls High School football team (1-4 overall, 0-4 North Eastern Conference) was not able to create a two-game win streak, falling 49-22 Friday to Marinette (1-4, 1-3 NEC). The Panthers were able to find the end zone first on Austin Kowalczyk’s 4-yard run for the only points of the first quarter. Marinette would fight back, though, scoring 35 points in the second quarter. Connor Scray was able to run in his first score on the night for the Panthers, but Marinette took a 35-14 lead into the break. James Jagielski scored his second receiving touchdown of the game in the third quarter, on a 70-yard play, before Spencer Hipke scored the final TD for Marinette (1-4, 1-3 North Eastern Conference). Scray scored again in the fourth quarter, this time from 3 yards out. He led the Panthers’ rushing attack with 15 carries for 94 yards. He also had 54 passing yards. Senior linebacker Michael Manns recorded 14 tackles, including one for loss, for Oconto Falls (1-4, 0-4 NEC). MARINETTE 49, OCONTO FALLS 22 Marinette 0 35 14 0 — 49 Oconto Falls 7 7 0 8 — 22
