To the editor:
In a recent feeble defense of Scott Walker, Oconto County Republican Party Chair Kevin Barthel called SKW a “good man” who would have been a “good president.” Really?
Good man? If you endorse lying.
Politifact found Walker a frequent pants-on-fire liar who has delivered these whoppers:
- “I am not John Doe;”
- “Wisconsin is broke;”
- “State government is $3 billion in debt;”
- “I unsealed my records” at Marquette;
- My political opponents brought “100,000 protesters into our state;”
- Changes made to the Wisconsin Idea were a “drafting error;”
- Protesters did “millions of dollars” in damage to the Capitol;
- Under my budget repair bill “collective bargaining is fully intact;”
- “Right to Work will never get to my desk;”
- I believe abortion should be “between a woman and her doctor;”
- Civil service protections, which predate collective bargaining by several generations, will “remain strongly intact.”
Good governor? If you stand with someone who “drops a bomb” on public employees and uses “divide and conquer” to destroy his political opponents. If you like your governor having six close associates/appointees found guilty of criminal activity, support someone who appoints ill-equipped cronies to state positions, advocate selling state assets at great prices to campaign contributors, endorse gerrymandering and voter suppression, approve the performance of the dysfunctional and scandalously corrupt WEDC Walker created and chaired, and sanction a heartless policy of denying Medicaid to tens of thousands of Wisconsin’s working poor, a foolhardy decision that’ll eventually cost the state close to a billion dollars.
What’s really good?
The national media, Donald Trump and Walker’s anemic debate performances have finally stifled his unbridled ambition. Tommy Thompson is probably right. Walker’s pathetic campaign ends his political career. Since only a third of Wisconsinites currently support him, Scott Walker should do the right thing and resign.
Now that would be good for all of us.
