Tuba soloist to perform in fall concert

The Northeastern Wisconsin Concert Band will perform its fall concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Marinette High School Auditorium. The band is composed of adults who enjoy sharing their love of music with the public. Directors are Glen Reinke and Bob Berndt. The music is chosen for audiences of all ages and is taken from many genres and styles. The band will share the stage with tuba soloist Marty Erickson, who is in his 13th year on the faculty at the Conservatory of Music at Lawrence University in Appleton and is principal tuba with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra. He spent 26 years as principal tubist with the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C., served on the faculties of Penn State University and Eastern Michigan University, and was a founding member of numerous brass ensembles. Erickson has performed as a soloist/clinician throughout Western Europe, China, Japan, Scandinavia, United Kingdom, Bermuda, Cuba and in 48 of the 50 states in the U.S. He has performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra and many other orchestras, including performances at Carnegie Hall and the J.F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He has released three solo jazz CDs and has performed on over 50 recordings of orchestra, concert band, brass band, Dixieland jazz, folk and children’s music. Tickets, which will be available at the door, are $5 for adults and $2 for students. The band is financed entirely from concert receipts, donations and sponsorships.
